Pending COVID-19 restrictions, David is scheduled to teach a four-day watercolor workshop at Dillman’s from June 28-July 3.

2019 Creative Art Workshops

If you are an artist, we have a range of workshops in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, fiber arts and photography that will engage your creative spirit. This year we are offering workshops with experienced instructors helping students enhance their art and techniques. Dillman’s will show you how to enjoy learning while relaxing in a resort atmosphere. Most workshops are open to all levels, including beginners and seasoned artists.

If you have a home or cabin near Dillman’s, you are welcome to attend workshops as a Day Student.


FESTIVALS OF ARTISTS

Dillman’s Art Workshop Retreat is partnering with the local art groups in Florida, Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin to bring the free and fun festivals that includes:

  • Hour-long demonstrations by well-known artists in their chosen mediums
  • Door prizes – announced at the top of each hour
  • Silent auction of artist’s original and reproduction artwork plus books, videos, and art supplies. Proceeds of the auction will be awarded as scholarships at Dillman’s www.dillmans.com/scholarship

Arion Press Seeks Applicants in Sales and Bookbinding

Our staff works in a serene park-like setting in San Francisco’s Presidio National Park, in a building full of books and works of art, as part of a team of twelve highly creative and dedicated people. These are ideal positions for individuals with a love of the arts and a strong work ethic.

SALES DIRECTOR: A full-time position, with health insurance through Kaiser, in a bright and airy office. Requirements include: mastery of basic office programs, excellent writing, telephone, and social media skills, a strong work ethic, and at least five years of applicable gallery, PR, retail sales, or cultural programming experience. Recent college graduates will not be considered.

SALES ASSISTANT: A full-time clerical position, with health insurance through Kaiser. Candidates should have at least two years of applicable office experience. Requirements include: mastery of basic office programs, excellent writing skills and telephone manners, and a strong work ethic.

Salaries and terms depend upon experience.

EXPERIENCED BOOKBINDER: Requirements: Applicants should have worked professionally as a bookbinder, with formal training and some experience of edition binding. Full-time, with health insurance through Kaiser.

BOOKBINDING WORKER: Requirements: May have experience limited to sewing, carpentry, or related hand crafts. Care for detail, patience, and manual dexterity required. Full-time or part-time, with health insurance through Kaiser.

Salaries and terms depend upon experience.

BOOKBINDING APPRENTICESHIP: Commitment is for a minimum of two years, with an opportunity for long-term employment. Apprentices learn fine edition bookbinding through on-the-job training. The salary is $15.00 per hour for a forty-hour week, health benefits through Kaiser, paid holidays, one week (5 days) paid vacation during the first year, two weeks (10 days) paid vacation starting the second year. There is a three-month probationary period.

Requirements:At least a high school education (college degree preferred), proficiency in grammar, spelling, and arithmetic, and mechanical aptitude. The work is physically demanding and repetitive; candidates must be able to stand for 8 hours and lift and carry 25 pounds.

Arion Press is located just inside San Francisco’s Presidio near Lake Street and Park Presidio Boulevard. It is on major SF bus lines (California Street, Geary Boulevard) and easily accessible from the Golden Gate Bridge and Highway 280.

This workshop has been designed so that you may learn the basics of watercolor painting in an encouraging and supportive environment. The class is limited to ten students, and provides lots of time for individual attention. Artists who have been painting for some time also find it valuable to immerse themselves in this intensive practice in order to refresh and enhance skills.

The exhibition will continue through March 30. Etchings by Joel Shapiro, printed by Aldo Crommelynck, published by Pace Prints, will be on view March 22 through April 21, 2018.

The artist will be present at the opening. He and publisher Andrew Hoyem will make remarks. Prof. Langdon Hammer, chair of the English Department at Yale University, who wrote the introduction, will speak on Crane’s long poem, his masterpiece, followed by readings.

The book, in scroll format, over fifty feet in length, printed from handset type on Chinese handmade paper, will be on display in the gallery, along with three framed extra prints by Shapiro. Edition limited to 300 copies, $2,500, with extra prints, edition of 30, $10,000.
