Plein-Air Landscapes in Point Pleasant with Jack Ross
Sunday, August 30th, 1:30-3:30pm, $65
Limit Class size of 10
Looking to “brush up” on your painting skills in a safe outdoor setting? In this workshop you’ll paint your own “Plein-Air” landscape along with Jack as he walks us through a start to finish demo of his process. We’ll focus on two main concepts essential to painting from life: simplifying complex forms found in nature, and accurately spotting colour. We’ll spend the afternoon in Point Pleasant Park with plenty of time for questions and feedback. All skill levels welcome – if you’ve never painted outdoors before this is a great chance to try it out!
ALL SUPPLIES will be provided in one of our ART ON THE GO kits which will include 2x 4″ x 5″ panels, brushes, acrylic paint, paper towel and gloves. Afterwards you can take the kit home and continue painting too!
YOU WILL BE PAINTING but this is a sketch by Jack Ross at the location we’ll be hosting the class!
We will be painting at Fort Ogilvie which is a short walk from the Lower Parking Lot of Point Pleasant park, and has washroom facilities near-by. If it rains, we will plan on doing this workshop at an alternative location within the park with protection from the rain. Plein air painting is also about dealing with the elements and unpredictable weather especially her in Nova Scotia.
THINGS TO BRING:
A folding chair or lawn chair
A mason jar or yogurt container with a cover, filled with water
Dress for the weather of the day and wear comfortable footwear
Remember sunscreen and insect repellent and maybe a hat too
Jack Ross plein air painting….one of his favourite ways to paint! He can’t wait to teach you the tricks of the trade while having socially distanced art fun great for all levels and ages 13+
Artful Covid Cure:
Mixed Media Workshop with Gordon MacDonald
Sunday, SEPTEMBER 13th, 1:30-3:30pm, $65
Limit Class size of 10
Gordon MacDonald is known for his luminescent oil paintings but he uses many different mediums and achieves magical results using a variety of mediums. This workshop is suitable for beginners but also for anyone that has been painting for a while or folks that have taken past workshops with Gordon. He will be showing you how to work with acrylic, gouache and watercolour. Students will be using a simplified palette consisting of reds, yellows, black and white. This is truly an exploration and invitation to try something new!
We will conduct the workshop at the Dartmouth Waterfront Park. Details of meeting location will be provided upon registration. We ask that you bring a folding chair, a mason jar or yogurt container with a cover filled with water, dress for the weather on that day. If it rains the class will continue but at an alternate location.

Inspiration in Nature: Mark Brennan
BY DONATION
Artist Mark Brennan has put together a video presentation about his life as an artist- how it all began and how he continues to be inspired by his surroundings in nature and expressing himself through a variety of mediums. Mark had planned on doing in person artist talk before Covid-19 , and we had originally shared this with people that had registered for this talk but we have now opened it up for anyone that would like to view it.
*All we ask is that you consider a small donation of gratitude; suggested donation of $10 which can be sent via etransfer to gallery@argylefa.com and shared with Mark for his work on this production*
Anyone that can afford to do this, we will also send you a BIRD IDENTIFICATION SHEET Mark had created for us in the Sprint and we’ll also send out a small packet of seeds so that you may plant them next year to attract birds to your backyard.**
