Rhonda Barrett July 17- Aug 13 “Home is Where the heART is” Round Hill Studio

Rhonda Barrett is an artist from Newfoundland with a background in Architectural Technology, currently living in Nova Scotia, whose study of paper and Japanese arts finds her working in a chigiri-e style with newsprint.

Upcoming Exhibition – Unwinding Evolution : Gerry Collins, July

Unwinding Evolution
Gerry Collins

Mary E. Black Gallery

1061 Marginal Rd. Suite 140, Halifax, NS
On view: July 16 – August 30, 2020
Wednesday – Saturday: 11am – 4pm

Gerry Collins is a ceramics artist based in Moncton NB who’s exhibition Unwinding Evolution explores the pottery vessel as a story-telling device for the development of the human species. In this Exhibition Gerry Collins’ melds her background as a Zoologist with her practice with clay. Collins uses the form of the amphora vessel “as a metaphor for the human body”….”more than any other vessel, the amphora is associated with travel and with the transportation of precious fluids.” Anthropologically the clay vessel is a distinct marker of daily human life. Ceramic objects evolve in the human hand both in the moment of making and in their use over time. Designs shaped by our needs and influenced by trade become as distinct as our own immensely complex evolution.

Unwinding Evolution will be hosted at The Mary E. Black Gallery from July 16 – August 30, 2020. The Mary E. Black has reopened with new hours from 11-4 Wednesday to Saturday. Follow us on our Facebook, Instagram and twitter for updates and announcements related to programming and scheduling.
