Brian M. Atyeo Workshop in Truro, NS
September 30 and October 1 and 2nd, 2016
To Truro Art Society Members and any artists who would like to join our group.
You are invited to attend and participate in our next TAS general meeting on Thursday April 28 at 7 pm. We will meet in the NSCC Drawing Studio (Room 321 of Forrester Hall) and hold a 15 minute meeting comprising a list of exhibitions and a brief treasury report.
We are extremely excited that Peter Labelle will lead us in an introductory session to drawing from a live nude model with a focus on exploring gesture drawing, movement and tracking the mass of the figure. The TAS will cover the fee for the model, but members are asked to bring a large newsprint pad and charcoal.
We have room for about 25 participants and we hope to see many of you there!

Flowers Flowers Flowers: OPEN CITY at Argyle Fine Art
|Saturday, May 7
It’s OPEN CITY time again, when downtown Halifax and Dartmouth celebrate the real beginning of Spring! Started by and organized by the I LOVE LOCAL gang, this all day Saturday event is certainly a harbinger for warmer days and just so happens to fall the day before Mother’s Day! So we were thinking….FLOWERS! In all their beautiful forms!
PAINT: We’re excited to announce that artist Briana Corr-Scott will be on hand from 1:30pm-3:30pm, with her newly opened exhibit of painted florals- that in our opinion are some of the most stunning paintings we’ve seen! Briana paints with oil and watercolour. She will even have a “wallpaper wall” installed for the exhibit. A must see!
METAL: Want to give some metal petals to mom this year for a change? Artist Al Hattie has just what you need. Al repurposes odds and sods and such into small sculptures. Affordable, inventive and always one-of-a-kind. Limited supply so come early!
REAL-LIFE FLOWERS: We’ll be joined by the Ikebana shop co-owner and artist Miyako Ballesteros as she creates a special space in the gallery with her ikebana arrangements within local ceramics provided by Julian Covey. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is more than simply putting flowers in a container. Its heart is the beauty resulting from color combinations, natural shapes, graceful lines, and the meaning latent in the total form of the arrangement.
We’ll also have some special draws for MOM’s (that includes cat moms, dog moms, grandmoms….) so make sure to drop by!
Heart Strings & Other Things is Kelly Mitchelmore’s 7th annual art show and celebrates heart and community. Joining Kelly this year is metal sculptor Al Simm, folk artist Jerry Walsh and glass creators Jason & Tim from School Street Studio Glass.
This year part of the shows proceeds go to support the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Please join us and Avondale Sky winery for an afternoon of art and chairty
Remember it is a studio show and so all the paintings are at studio pricing for the day. Plus this is all the new work I have been creating over the world yet prior to me sending it out to the galleries for the season :)
