Parrsboro Creative Invitation to Film Premiere

Parrsboro Creative Film Invitation MAL June 3 2016-page-001

FILM TRAILER:
“Searching For Realism” tells the story of eight established Nova Scotia painters – Tom Forrestall, Paul Hannon, Ed Huner, Joy Laking, Gordon MacDonald, Shelley Mitchell, Susan Paterson, and Steven Rhude – who organized a search throughout the province to find those artists  who are currently producing the best and most original work in a representational painting style.
In the beginning, 121 entries were received; 59 artists were visited in their studios; and in the end, there was an exhibition of 26 artists at University of Dalhousie, one of the most successful showing in their history.
“Searching For Realism” captures this process on film, and it is a fascinating journey.

Artisans on Main featuring the works of Lorraine Vatcher

Artisans on Main in Montague,PE opens Friday, June 3, and this year for the first time, each painter will have two weeks for a solo show. Every two weeks a different visual artist will be featured so that they may get a special area of the gallery to present more of his or her works. This is a new feature of Artisans on Main and I am very proud to be the first artist to be selected for this opportunity.

My two weeks starts on Friday, June 3. Here are a few of the paintings in my show, “Colours of My Life”.

The Geography of Bliss

artnews

The Geography of Bliss an exhibition of drawings by artists Annie Lalande and Bonnie Baker.

Opening Sunday, June 5, 1 – 3 pm, with artist talks at 1:30 pm.

The Geography of Bliss brings together two artists, Bonnie Baker (Nova Scotia) and Annie Lalande (Quebec) whose work is distinguished by the the gesture, discipline and process of drawing .  Each have their own approaches to the evolving and ever widening  field of “traditional” drawing processes.

Despite coming from different backgrounds, training, and culture, emerging artist Lalande and Baker in mid-career share a sensitivity to paper, to the greyness of drawings, to the vapour like forms, subtleties and possibilities of depth  often best executed in drawing.  Whether linked to descriptions of time and space as observed in Baker’s cloud and landscapes on paper  or to the discovery of personal identity expressed in Lalande’s poetic alterations of the paper’s surface and beyond, in the act of drawing an image gains a life of its own.

“ The very act of drawing represent both inner and outer parts of our world. And the choices we make in the drawing process are important parts of a conversation we have with ourselves.

We can look at it, think about it, and revise it. The revised drawing is an expression of new thought.  It is our hope the works presented will give rise to new thoughts and understanding of the nature of drawing.”

Truro Art Society welcomes new members

We wish to announce that the deadline for submitting work to the jury for the “July at the Marigold”  exhibition has been pushed back until June 15. Most of you know that Brandt Eisenor and his team will be our jury for this exhibition, and you can email your images to him at <brandt.eisner@gmail.com>.
At our AGM last evening there was some confusion about this process and others may also be shy about asking questions. The process is to send Brandt your image, and his team will decide upon whether it will be included in the exhibition. The MMFI gallery is a small space, but please submit the pieces you wish. Brandt, as an outside and independent person will be the judge of whether there is room.
Our Art in Bloom take-in is this coming Saturday. Members will pay 5$ per piece and non members 10.00. You might recall from previous years that we will be awarding the Carol McFadyen watercolour award, and two TAS awards (all cash awards). We are hoping for a good turnout.

Membership form is attached again if you need it.

See you Saturday!
