Craft Nova Scotia – Great Atlantic Canadian Pottery Throwdown – Saturday, October 17th, 2:00pm

Great Atlantic Canadian Pottery Throwdown

Saturday, October 17th @ 2:00pm
on Zoom

On Saturday, October 17th at 2pm potters will join Craft Nova Scotia on Zoom at their wheels and/or workbenches. The public are invited to watch via Zoom. Each potter will have 6-7lbs of clay and all their equipment ready to go, their computer, tablet or phone camera will be focused on their wheel or workspace, either close up to just see the wheel/hands and their clay at work, or pulled back a bit more so you can see the potter working.

We will introduce each potter, and show a short video or panorama shot of their studio. Then all at the same time the potters will throw down their clay and start creating a vessel with a time limit of 20 minutes. Online visitors will get to see the potters hands at work, and the vessels taking shape. Different techniques, shapes and styles will emerge on screen.

This Great Atlantic Canadian Pottery Throwdown was the brainchild of potter Wendy Johnston, who is part of the current Craft Nova Scotia member exhibition, Craft Year 2020, at the Centre for Craft Nova Scotia’s Mary E. Black Gallery. Due to Covid-19 gathering limits we asked each exhibitor to come up with a virtual engagement idea just in case the gallery wasn’t able to be open to visitors. Luckily we are able to be open, 11am to 4pm Wednesday to Saturday, but couldn’t resist this and the other ideas that our exhibitors came up with!

If you would like to watch the action unfold you can join by visiting the registration page, and a Zoom link will be emailed to you,

If you are potter who plans on playing along visit the registration page, fill out the form and we will send you an email shortly with a few more details.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Julie Rosvall, Program Director via email or by calling/texting 902-691-1493.

Thank you!

A LOCAL CRAFT POP UP at the Parrsboro Bandstand, Saturday, Sept. 5th from 11-4 pm! Meet artists BETH & TOM POIRIER, JANET DOBLE & JOCELYN LI

They will be demonstrating spinning and weaving at the Parrsboro Bandstand from 11 – 4 pm. After your errands to the Farmer’s Market, come check out their craft and expertise in handwoven textiles! Please welcome and give thanks to Beth Poirier Handwovens and Tom for sharing their process and passion.

Watch Janet Doble throw pottery on a wheel this Saturday from 11 – 4 pm at the Parrsboro Bandstand on Main Street!

My dear Parrsboro locals and art enthusiasts,

I have awaited an opportunity to meet you all during a welcome session for my arrival in Parrsboro, organized with the Parrsboro Board of Trade earlier in the year. Both events were sadly cancelled due to a snowstorm and later, the pandemic.

By now, I have luckily met many of you in person. I am reminded daily of why I returned to Nova Scotia; I am so touched by all of your warmth and generosity. I can’t wait for when we can assemble in larger groups safely.

If you’re in town over the Labour Day weekend, I’d like to invite you to meet a few craft artists and myself who will be sharing and demonstrating our practice at the Parrsboro Bandstand on Main Street on Saturday, September 5th from 11- 4 pm. While we work away, browse a selection of handmade goods and art, many of which are up for sale should something suit your fancy!

As I’m getting to know every maker and creative in this beautiful area, please reach out if you’re interested in having us showcase your artistic discipline! Writers, musicians, actors, dancers, photographers, and other mediums are most welcome to reach out to us at or at the office at 902-728-2007.

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Jocelyn Li
Executive Director at Parrsboro Creative
