Iceland Fine Art Photography Exhibit

Iceland – An Adventure of Moments

Join Paul Newton and Sherry Hudson as they share their photographic journey to Iceland in the fall of 2015. Three years in the dreaming, this journey will take you on a circumnavigation of the world’s most active volcanic island. You will visit steaming sulfurous hot springs, endless lava fields covered in verdant moss, vast glaciers aglow in the Northern Lights, mist shrouded mountains, black volcanic sand beaches and waterfalls of every imaginable size. Discover how the rich and dynamic environment taught Sherry and Paul to accept the gifts Iceland had to offer one moment at a time. A 90 minute tale of 4,000 kms, 21days, 8,000 pictures and 1 flat tire.

Join us for another fun day of printmaking at Visual Voice. Monotype is a very experimental and direct process of image creation through the use of printmaking equipment. You will not be creating an edition of multiples but instead remove ink from a plate with various rags, Q-tips, and brushes and found materials to create a single print. You may create up to 5 different images during this workshop.

You can come prepared with an image idea or spend the day experimenting with found materials with this much more direct and painterly printmaking technique. You do not need previous knowledge of printmaking to participate in this workshop. Please bring an apron or old t-shirt and any thin/flat found materials like dried leaves, thread, paper cut outs. If you can’t think of anything, not to worry, there will be materials supplied as well.

The instructor is artist and printmaker Maria Doering, who teaches at NSCAD and has taught 2 other workshops at Visual Voice. See Maria’s bio here. *Includes the use of a press!

Sun, May 22th 10:00 am – 3:30 pm for $75+tax per person
ALL materials included.
Lunch $8+tax extra (soup & half sandwich), or bring your own.
PreRegistration Required call 902-843-9464

Painting Workshop with artist Carol Morrison! For beginners or for those wanting to try a different approach to painting, try an expressive painting style with artist Carol Morrison, using one of Tom Thomson’s small plein air paintings as inspiration. Carol will supply a reproduction of one of Tom’s paintings to work from, and an 8X10” canvas with a colored ground like that used by Tom.

Although Tom painted in oils, this workshop will use acrylic paints only. Carol suggests the following colors: ultramarine blue, burnt umber, cadmium yellow pale, cadmium red medium, titanium white, and sap or chrome oxide green. Please bring an apron (or clothes that you don’t care about), a size 6 or 7 brush and, if you have it, an easel.
See Carol’s bio here

Thurs, May 26th 10:00 am – 3:30 pm for $55+tax per person
Prepared canvas included.
Lunch $8+tax extra (soup & half sandwich), or bring your own.
