2015/16 MEDIA ARTS SCHOLARSHIP SCREENING

The Centre for Art Tapes is pleased to present OUT OF THE CENTRE: The 2015/16 Media Arts Scholarship Presentation. For 27 years, the CFAT Media Art Scholarship Program has provided local artists with the chance to explore an aspect of media art with which they have little to no experience. Scholars receive six months of one-to-one guidance from specially selected mentors, as well as workshops taught by experts in areas such as audio, video, production, editing, after effects and electronics. For the duration for the program, they have free access to facilities, equipment, and staff support.

This years presentation includes:

Mary REARDON is a native of Halifax and attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and design. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1993 and a Major in Studio and a Minor in Art History. Mary was a recipient of the NSCAD Centennial Scholarship in1993, the Loomis and Toles Bursary in Printmaking in 1993, and the Joseph Beuys Scholarship in 1993.

Call for Photographic Images

Call for Photographic Images : The St. Margaret’s Bay Area Rails to Trails Association is sponsoring an amateur photography contest to raise awareness about this amazing natural recreational resource within the community and draw visitors to the area. The St. Margaret’s Bay Area Trail runs from Lewis Lake to Hubbards on 32.5 kms. of the former railway bed. Amateur photographers residing in Nova Scotia are invited to submit digital or print images depicting views of and from the St. Margaret’s Bay Area Trail during all seasons. In November 2016 prizes will be awarded for the top submissions. The winners and other submitted photos will be acknowledged on Facebook and through an exhibit in a community-based venue in Upper Tantallon.

Gallery 18 specializes in PEI art, antique maps and prints, old and collectible books, vintage posters, ephemera, and vintage furniture. Many new pieces have come in over the winter. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for ART IN BLOOM EXHIBITION

Artists are invited to submit artworks for our annual ART IN BLOOM exhibition. Art work in a variety of mediums will be accepted (drawing, painting, photography, fibre arts, pottery, etc.). All submissions must have a floral theme. Cash prizes for best artwork in all mediums, $300.00 and $200.oo , and the Carole MacFayden Award in Watercolor will be presented at our opening Reception. We hope you can join us for, what some believe to be, the prettiest show of the year!

Artwork can be delivered to McCarthy Gallery, Saturday, JUNE 4th from 10 am to 1 pm.
Opening Reception at the Gallery, Saturday , JUNE 11th, 2016, from 1 to 4pm.

Sign Up for Spring Workshops

VANS Spring 2016 professional development workshop series for artists will feature topics including Grant Writing, Pricing Your Work, Making Time to Make Art, Documenting Your Work, and Estate Planning for Artsists. Running May to June in Halifax, Annapolis Royal and Tatamagouche, the workshops will feature the professional expertise of Katie Belcher, Stacey Cornelius, Steve Farmer, Sarah Maloney, and George Clarke.

In addition, VANS is organizing free Peer to Peer Discussions in Halifax, Annapolis Royal, and Tatamagouche, about Earning Opportunities for Artists. These discussion sessions are an opportunity for artists to gather together in an informal setting to share tips, tricks and strategies for earning money through their art and experience. These sessions are also a chance for artists to connect with their fellow community members, and identify unique earning opportunities in their region.
