A collaboration between Avon River Arts and Avon River Heritage, Artisans in Action returns with a series of pop-up markets designed to showcase Nova Scotian artists and artisans who focus on historical trades, crafts, and art forms done in both traditional and contemporary manners.
Taking place in the rustic Avon Spirit Shipyard in Avondale/Newport Landing, nestled along the shore of the mighty Avon River, these open air markets are an opportunity for artists and artisans to engage an audience by presenting a window into their creative process, while also offering their products for sale.
Artisans in Action takes place the first Sunday of the month, June – October, noon until 4pm.The cost to participate is $25 per artisan, per market (discounted rates for those participating in multiple dates). Artists and artisans are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Tables, chairs, access to electricity and refreshments are provided.

Call to Canadian Artists:
As part of a series of virtual fitness missions, Great Run Canada is introducing the Canada 154 Virtual ArtWalk! Our virtual missions have, in the past, included hand-made virtual postcards that people receive at designated distances via email as they walk, run, bike or swim their way across a virtual distance. I am creating missions in 154km increments (to celebrate Canada’s 154th birthday), and instead of just tourist-style virtual postcards, I would like to include artcards as well to help promote other artists like myself and the provinces they are from. I am about to launch Nova Scotia and am now looking for artists in all other provinces.
There will never be a cost to the artist (participants in the virtual walks are charged a small $15 fee to help pay for my use of the platform and administrative costs). This is my way of trying to keep people physically active while getting some Canadian arts and culture experience that we are all missing by not being able to travel. What I need from you, the artist: a jpeg of the piece you want featured on your art card. This can be a single piece or you can make a jpeg collage of multiple pieces. I also need a short bio about you and the piece(s) featured, a way to contact you, where your work can be viewed, and if you would like to offer participants a discount on purchases made. (They could mention Great Run Canada, for example, and you know they participated in the mission for the discount. I will not have anything to do with the actual sales. That’s all you! A discount might just be a good way to send people in your direction). I will be creating a release form to protect us both, just saying that you’ve agreed to let me use the image and that I agree to ONLY use it in the designated project. No theme for the first project, although I am willing to consider it for future segments. The only rule is family-friendly because I have no control over the ages or people who sign up to do the walks.
If you have any questions, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. And you can view the current missions (none are artwalk ones yet) on my website at https://greatruncanada.ca/virtual-missions.
I can’t wait to include you in this project!

Falls Brook Centre is a non-profit organization with a mandate to create programs and initiatives that contribute towards positive environmental transformation. Falls Brook Centre is creating a colouring book in effort to develop an inclusive activity that can be enjoyed by all! I am reaching out to educators and artists to determine if any of your students or colleagues would like to participate in this initiative by contributing artwork. All proceeds from the colouring book will go towards supporting Falls Brook Centre’s environmental education programs!
We are currently looking for submissions! Since we are looking for this book to represent all New Brunswickers, we are accepting submissions from all ages and talents. While we were hoping for all submissions to be in before the end of April, we can extend the deadline to the end of May if that is more feasible!
Thank you in advance,
