‘Home’ Group Art Show opens this Saturday + May workshops at Visual Voice

Visual Voice Fine Art gallery presents ‘HOME’ a group art show around the theme of belonging and place. Artists Twila Robar-DeCoste, Louise Baker, Lynn Johnson, Diana Baldwin, Maria Doering, Carol Morrison, Betty-Anne Gaetz, Carol Smeraldo, Judy Arsenault, Kath Rutherford, Nora Gross, and introducing Joanne Solway, interpret the theme in their own way with some surprising results.
Featuring paintings, prints, watercolours and sculptures, touching on the theme of home literally and figuratively.
Come to the gallery to meet and toast the artists on May 14th at the free opening reception from 7-9 pm. Visit Visual Voice Fine Art at regular hours from May 16th to June 18th to view this great collection of artwork.

Join us for another fun day of printmaking at Visual Voice. Monotype is a very experimental and direct process of image creation through the use of printmaking equipment. You will not be creating an edition of multiples but instead remove ink from a plate with various rags, Q-tips, and brushes and found materials to create a single print. You may create up to 5 different images during this workshop.

You can come prepared with an image idea or spend the day experimenting with found materials with this much more direct and painterly printmaking technique. You do not need previous knowledge of printmaking to participate in this workshop. Please bring an apron or old t-shirt and any thin/flat found materials like dried leaves, thread, paper cut outs. If you can’t think of anything, not to worry, there will be materials supplied as well.

The instructor is artist and printmaker Maria Doering, who teaches at NSCAD and has taught 2 other workshops at Visual Voice. See Maria’s bio here. *Includes the use of a press!

Sun, May 22th 10:00 am – 3:30 pm for $75+tax per person
ALL materials included.
Lunch $8+tax extra (soup & half sandwich), or bring your own.
PreRegistration Required call 902-843-9464

Painting Workshop with artist Carol Morrison! For beginners or for those wanting to try a different approach to painting, try an expressive painting style with artist Carol Morrison, using one of Tom Thomson’s small plein air paintings as inspiration. Carol will supply a reproduction of one of Tom’s paintings to work from, and an 8X10” canvas with a colored ground like that used by Tom.

Although Tom painted in oils, this workshop will use acrylic paints only. Carol suggests the following colors: ultramarine blue, burnt umber, cadmium yellow pale, cadmium red medium, titanium white, and sap or chrome oxide green. Please bring an apron (or clothes that you don’t care about), a size 6 or 7 brush and, if you have it, an easel.
See Carol’s bio here
