Call for Artists: VANS in Residence and PAINTS workshop proposals

VANS in Residence at Wonder’neath

VANS is accepting applications from professional visual artists for VANS in Residence at Wonder’neath. The artist must be willing and able to commit 40 hours per week to the 5-week planning and residency. Please note, for this residency priority will be given to BIPOC individuals and 2SLGBTQIA+ artists. Residencies may be used for research, development and production of ongoing or new bodies of work.

VANS in Residence provides a studio space, a stipend to support the artist to work full time for 4 weeks plus one week of planning, and support from VANS and Wonder’neath in outreach. Time will be split between the artist’s own work (creation, research or both) and to community based work. The outreach will need to be done by distance, either by packages sent out to families in the community, or by online workshops made available.⠀

This VANS in Residence will take place from March 1 – 28, 2021. The planning week can take place anytime up to February 21, 2021. A stipend of $2500 will be paid to the artist and a studio in the Wonder’neath Studios at 2482 Maynard Street, in Halifax, NS. VANS in Residence must be a VANS member, but you can join at the time of application.

Deadline: January 18 at 5pm.

A call for remote PAINTS workshop proposals

The PAINTS program is seeking initial sketches/outlines for workshops that you could lead remotely. All workshops will be either online in real time via Google classrooms, or facilitated by the teacher with paper prompts provided by the artist as a guide to take students through a process. We’re approaching all workshops as one-off live events.

For 2021, we want to add four more to the selection that can be offered to schools and we need workshops for students at all grade levels. From these initial ideas, four will be chosen to be developed into full workshops. At the second stage, selected artists will be paid a stipend of $160 to fully flesh out the workshop description/plan. There will be support from Andrea Ritchie, the PAINTS coordinator in doing this work.

To more closely align our fee structure with CARFAC, the hourly facilitation rate for PAINTS projects is now set at $80/per hour. You must be a PAINTS artist to apply.

Please read the application details on the PAINTS website and contact PAINTS Coordinator Andrea Ritchie for more information at paints@visualarts.ns.ca.

Deadline: January 18 at 5pm.
