Update #3 from Lunenburg School of the Arts

Update #3 from Lunenburg School of the Arts

Dear Friends,

Our School has been closely following the evolving situation with regard to COVID-19 and the very gradual easing of restrictions, and the possible impact on our Summer 2020 schedule.

As you may know, we have an average limit of 10 students per course, while two of the courses have 12 students. Our teaching studios are very spacious and can easily provide for the suggested social distancing. The current limit of 5 people per gathering does not permit our classes to take place. We are hopeful that this restriction will be eased in time for beginning our Summer program on June 29.

Four of our instructors are from outside of Nova Scotia (New Brunswick, Ontario, Alberta, and Colorado, USA). The current travel restrictions between provinces and between Canada-USA, do not permit transborder travel. We are hopeful that there will be an easement of this restriction in time for our guest instructors to come to Lunenburg.

Lastly, but equally important, a number of our students are from outside Nova Scotia, and the current travel restriction prevents them from coming to Lunenburg. We hope that there will be an easement of this travel restriction so that these students can participate in our Summer program.

Our School is well aware of its contribution to the cultural economy of Lunenburg, particularly in the summer months. We believe that the program we are offering for this summer is probably the most varied and exciting to date. We therefore will be listening closely to the announcements by the Chief Medical Officer of the Province of Nova Scotia and other Provincial authorities as we all work through this virus challenge. We will continue to monitor those directions and will issue a decision of our School on or before May 29, 2020, as to the status of our Summer program.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and hope to see you this summer.

The Honourable Wilfred P. Moore, Q.C., LL.D., Volunteer Chair
