From Pen to Hook Workshop with Instructor Penny Lighthall at the 2019 Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival
Friday October 18
Skill Level: Any level
Location: First Baptist Church, Ladies Parlour – 90 Victoria St. E, Amherst, NS
Explore how to design your own rug by using the written word for inspiration. We will talk about different design aspects (space, colour etc); how to design if you cannot draw; how to let that “inspiration angel” free and keep it engaged. How to choose a design when more than one springs into your head when reading. And so much more.
- A favourite poem, song, short story, or newspaper article
- Sketch book
- Sketch pencils
- Coloured pencils
- Rug backing in case you are ready to put it on the backing
Instructor Bio: I have more than 25 years experience as a rug hooker, and design all my rugs. Had two solo exhibits featuring my From Pen to Hook Series, Rugs Inspired by the Poetry of Elizabeth Bishop, with an exhibit contract for the poem of Bliss Carmen in 2020.
