(HALIFAX)- This Friday, you’ll be treated to not one but THREE new shows by local artists, including “Painted Poems” by Danny Abriel, “Halifax Haunts” by Jan Davison and “New World meets Old World” by Catherine Bagnell Styles. Each artist brings a unique way of using colour in their works, and although their themes and styles are varied the ties that bind are colour and pride in local scenery and the feeling of home. All three artists will be on hand the evening of the opening, so drop by and meet them too. We’ll have special nibbles provided by Certainly Cinnamon and cool refreshing refreshments for all to enjoy.
Remember you don’t have to buy art to be supportive of artists or our small business. Just show up to an event and tell someone how much you love what they make or do. A little goes a long way. Let’s connect more as humans in person vs online. This is our challenge to you!
Danny Abriel: Danny Abriel’s works are informed by the native scenery he was raised in — reflective waters, wind-swept trees, contoured landscapes and seasonal colours. The paintings are inspired by connection to the gentle beauty and drama of trees and their surroundings.
Jan Davison: Jan Davison is a Halifax painter who loves to support local. With a strong embrace of local architecture Jan paints all types of small Halifax businesses and landmarks. Her bold use of colour and high contrast renders our streetscapes as a warm and inviting experience.
Catherine Bagnell Styles: Catherine Bagnell’s paintings are almost always colourful, highly textured and generally optimistic. She is inspired by Impressionism, especially the French impressionists. In this show “New World meets Old World”, there are paintings of France and of the Maritimes, yet the style is very similar. All pieces are done using a palette knife and there are lots and lots of layers and paint.
