The Sackville Art Association will host its Annual Members’ Exhibition from November 18 to December 16 at the Owen’s Art Gallery in Sackville, N.B. with work by over 40 artists from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The gala opening is on Sunday, November 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. Join us for the announcement of the VIP Award, cast your vote for the Peoples’ Choice Award and savour local talent and refreshments!
Each year the SAA chooses one of its members to be the year’s “Featured Artist” for the exhibition. Margaret Wiles of Oxford, N.S. has been honoured with this designation for 2018.
Margaret was born in the U.K., attended the Leeds College of Art where she received her National Diploma of Design. She worked for architects and interior designers, doing architectural renderings and presentation work in Leeds U.K., St John’s NL, and Halifax NS.
A master watercolourist, Wiles produces work which is both illustrative and realistic. Her paintings have been displayed in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Bella’s Cafe, the Cumberland County Museum and Tidnish Bridge Art Gallery.
As a member of the SAA she has also participated in the annual member exhibits for several years and regularly teaches classes for the members. Margaret taught watercolour classes for the Halifax Recreation Department for several years. She also has offered classes for all ages at the Tidnish Bridge Art Gallery where she has been a partner for many years.
The Sackville Art Association (SAA) has been in existence since 1935. Membership has included many artists who have become household names in the arts community –like Lawren P. Harris, Alex Colville and Ted Pulford. The Owens Art Gallery has within its vaults numerous paintings by former SAA members.
