ARTsNEWS Introducing AiR Lauren Soloy

We are delighted to introduce Lauren Soloy as ARTsPLACE AiR, supported through the Parker Mountain Wind Turbine Society. November 20 – December 20, 2018.

Lauren Soloy has a Visual Arts Degree (Honours BFA) from the University of Victoria, as well as a Certificate in Fine Furniture from Camosun College. For the last several years, Lauren has been working towards her goal of writing and illustrating picture books. This summer she signed with literary agent, Jackie Kaiser at Westwood Creative Artists, and last month she signed a two-book contract with Tundra Books (a division of Penguin Random House Canada).

Lauren’s illustration process uses mixed media – often combining cut paper collage with pencil crayon, pastel, and watercolour. She says her work is a balance between keeping everything consistent and coherent and also keeping it loose and playful. In her writing, she strives to connect bigger concepts with smaller moments that will resonate for kids and adults alike.

Lauren will use the residency to work on her next book, she will also be offering a number of opportunities for community engagement.
