Waterfront Gang with Lisa Lelliott
St Mark’s Summer Cabaret Series
7:30-9:30pm, Friday, August 31st
The Waterfront Gang is a quartet with varied musical experiences derived from Jazz, Blues, Classical, and Rock genres. You are likely to hear some familiar standards with intriguing arrangements, some less familiar cover tunes, and some of their own original material in the American Songbook tradition. The Waterfront Gang consists of Rob Clark (bass), Gary Sallans (guitar), Mike Watson (tenor sax), and Jordi Comstock (drums/percussion) with special vocal guest Lisa Lelliott.
Robert Clark studied with Skip Beckwith for four years at the St FX Jazz Program and has accompanied some of the finest musical talent in the country. Gary Sallans early influences were from a Rock tradition which morphed into an interest in the Classical Guitar, and ultimately into Jazz; a life-long learner and a dedicated teacher. Mike Watson is also a teacher-performer with long musical roots (father on the guitar and mom on the piano); Mike has played saxophone and piano professionally. Jordi Comstock learned to play drums at his drummer father’s knee and his grandfather was a swing band leader. Jordi studied with Roger Strange for many years; he is one of Canada’s most sought-after percussionist having played with a whack of very talented and well known artists. Many of you probably know Lisa Lelliott as a Ieyngar Yoga instructor; but, she is also a very accomplished Jazz vocalist who has been delighting audiences whenever she chooses to perform.
Be prepared to hear something that is both familiar and excitingly new. This combination will create some musical magic. Don’t miss out!
