Calling all artists working in all mediums and styles to participate in this year’s Paint Avondale, a part of our Artisans in Action series of pop-up sales and demonstrations.
The first Sunday of each month we invite artists and makers to the Avon River Heritage museum for an enjoyable afternoon spent creating and networking. Set along the historic waterfront in Newport Landing (where the New England Planters landed in 1760), this venue has a spectacular view of the highest tides in the world – I dare you not to fall in love with the landscape, it’s nearly impossible!
This is our sixth year hosting this series, and each year we’ve made small tweaks to our plien air event to improve the overall experience for everyone involved. Previously we have had artists set-up at various historic shipbuilding homes throughout the “Avondale Loop”, but we were finding that no matter how lovely the vista or the architecture, visitors seemed to prefer to stick to the area around the museum, and the artists on location were simply not experiencing the same amount of visitor traffic as those who chose to paint along the river.
One of our favourite things about our Artisans in Action series is the networking that takes place when different artists congregate together to create. We want all of our Paint Avondale participants to experience the same comradery as our other guest artists have throughout the season.
This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, September 2nd and runs from noon until 4pm. The fee to participate is just $25, which goes towards our advertising expenses. Artists are asked to arrive anytime after 10:30 am to register. Each artist will be given space to display their art on one of the many easels and tables set-up in the Avon Spirit Shipyard, which will act as our gallery for the day. A volunteer will be on hand to process sales, with 100% of proceeds going back to the artists.
We are really hoping to attract a diverse selection of artists this year and look forward to seeing how they interpret our little piece of heaven, known as Avondale.
Attached is the poster and registration form with links to photo albums from previous years:
Here is an album of locations from previous years, should anyone want to venture out on location. If there is a particular location where you’d like to create, please let us know and we’ll do our best to arrange for permission.
