Hands On Craft
Exciting things are being planned at the Centre for Craft! Below is a list of activities that will be open to all throughout the summer! $10 Material Kits and demonstrations will be available for a variety of craft techniques with no experience necessary! Come on down and join us at the Centre located at the Halifax Seaport beside Pier 21, 1061 Marginal Rd. We’re open Tuesday-Friday 9am-5pm and weekends 11am-4pm. We look forward to crafting with you!

Printmaking – Design and print your own postcards
June 26- Aug 12, drop in Tuesday- Saturday 11am-4pm daily
Material kits will be available for purchase for $10 and includes 3 postcards, carving plate and access to carving tools, ink and rollers. There will also be pre-designed blocks by local printmaking students available for use by all.
Grindhouse – Local knife-making presentations and demonstrations
July 13- July 15, 11am-4pm
Families and visitors of all ages will get a chance to meet local knife craftsmen from local knife shop Grindhouse. We will learn about the making and sharpening processes (with demonstrations!) as well as the differences between blades and other information about blade care. Participants will then get a chance to try their hand at a (tiny) knife craft with a $10 kit! You don’t want to miss this exciting experience!
Jewellrey making – Pride accessories
July 17-22, drop in Tuesday- Saturday 11am-4pm daily
Visitors of the Seaport and Halifax locals are invited to design their own colourful jewellrey to celebrate Halifax Pride 2018. $10 Material kits include as many multi-coloured beads, pompoms and sequins you need to show off your unique style and support for love of all kinds.
Embroidery – Stitch your own story
July 24- Aug 12, drop in Tuesday- Saturday 11am-4pm daily
Families and visitors of all ages will be invited to create their own embroidered stories drawing inspiration from the show by Penny Berens and Judy Martin. $10 Material kits include fabric and embroidery floss, with access to various sized embroidery needles and techniques.
Tapestry weaving- Weave your own rag rug coaster
Aug 14- Aug 26 , drop in Tuesday- Saturday 11am-4pm daily
Families and visitors of all ages will be invited to weave their own rag strip coaster using a frame loom. Material kits can be purchased for $10 and includes your very own frame loom and rag strip weft material.
