Alan Syliboy’s Thundermaker opened July 1
Mi’kmaw artist Alan Syliboy’s The Thundermaker exhibit is a spectacular mixed-media exhibit that became his children’s book of the same name, blending Syliboy’s contemporary art practise with imagery inspired by his ancestors. In the narrative, based on a Mi’kmaw story, Big Thunder teaches his son, Little Thunder, about the important responsibility he has making thunder for his people. Little Thunder learns about his Mi’kmaw identity through his father’s teachings and his mother’s traditional stories. Syliboy’s spectacular, vibrant artwork brings the story of Little Thunder to vivid life.
This exhibit was made possible by the Canada Council for the Arts.
Vanya & Animal Farm open this week!
Canning N.S.- We have moved outdoors in final preparation for our fabulous summer season, in previews and opening our first two shows, North Mountain Vanya and a musical Animal Farm by Fire this week. With cast, creators and crew from the Atlantic Region and far beyond, we are thrilled to bring these timeless (and timely) stories to life under the big skies and verdant backdrop of the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts. Tickets are already selling well for those shows as well as for our third show, by shalan joudry, Elapultiek, which premieres in mid August.
This year’s season is proudly supported by Arts NS, the Canada Council for the Arts, The Craig Foundation, Kimball Law, and K-Rock.
Congratulations to our camp staff!
We had our camp graduation today, with Counselor In Training hopefuls making the grade over the week of staff training, and our JCs moving to the next level. They are a great team along with our counsellors and senior staff, and our wonderful volunteer Maya, all the way from Germany! You can find out all about them and our other staff who make the SummerArts camps so extraordinary here. Some of our camps are sold out already this year, so sign up soon for the incredible combination of great artistic programming, traditional camp and creativity! Programs in visual arts, music, dance, theatre, writing, making, fashion and more!
We begin on July 3!
Junior kids from 5-7 use all the arts to explore cool themes; our intermediate campers (8-10) start to develop more skills in a particular art form, and our senior campers (11-16) hone their skills, academy teens are part of our pioneering program, and dancers take leaps forward with DSD, all while eating delicious food, creating on our beautiful grounds, and connecting with other creative kids from around the world all supervised by our caring, highly trained and fabulous staff!

FIREFLY ECO CABIN PROJECT – 3 weeks left!
We are thrilled to welcome artist and designer Julien Jodoin-Eng back to Ross Creek. He has been here as a volunteer over the past two years, working toward this new project: to build sustainable accommodation for artists at Ross Creek, inspired by our programs, our landscape, and our campus. Julien is now raising funds to build the eco-cabin as a working model for other sustainable buildings in the future. If you can support this project, you can get cool benefits and also contribute to Ross Creek infrastructure!
