Square1 is a group of local artists dedicated to exploring contemplation and perception in art and in everyday life. They are inspired by, but not limited to Black Mountain traditions, dharma art, and the wisdom inherent in expressive mind. The art is easily appreciated by all ages.

Square 1 includes:
Leya Evelyn:
Leya’s mixed media paintings are dominated by intense, powerful colours. She exhibits nationally, internationally, and locally at the Secord Gallery in Halifax

Michael Milligan: Through mixed media, Michael playfully engages with our perceptions and invites us to experience ourselves anew. With a background in studio ceramics and ethnographic research in South America, Michael searched for a new path. Painting and the seduction of found objects using his childhood collections inform these present works.

Margaret Jones Callahan: Open spaces, big sky and the waters of St. Margaret’s Bay and Cape Breton inspire the expressive nature of mind. Bright, peaceful, inviting, provocative, Margaret’s paintings explore true relationship between the elements and humanity.

Helena Wolf: Helena loves the out doors. She is amazed by nature’s beauty. Found treasures are brought together, morphed, and given a new expression.

Susan Morin: Susan’s ceramic work consists of functional Majolica pieces informed by folk imagery

Hasta Coleman: acrylic paintings

Alana Ziegler: stained glass artist
