Paul Newton to Speak
at Bridgewater Photo Club
a talk entitled
“Focus Stacking the Devil is in the Details”
on April 10th at 7pm,
MARC at 33 Leary Fraser Road
Paul Newton is a professional photographer based in the South Shore of Nova Scotia. His passion is capturing the abundant beauty of the province and sharing it in vivid fine art prints. Images in his collection include sites close to home, local gardens and those captured during his many treks into the wilderness throughout the province. He is constantly searching for little known or undiscovered locations to reveal these gems of our natural world.
Paul Newton has been using focus stacking in his photographic arsenal for the past 5 years since a young lichenologist/photographer introduced him to the technique. He uses it to increase depth of field with detailed macro shots of plants and bugs as well as enhancing depth of field detail with his super wide-angle landscape photography. You can see some of his work at www.pxnewton.wordpress.com
In this presentation at the Bridgewater Photographic Society Paul will discus the advantages of focus stacking and share the different tips and techniques he has learned to create these shots. In camera automatic settings, using a macro focus rail and manual focus adjustments for in the field image capture will be discussed. He will then review the various methods of blending images using
Lightroom, Photoshop and third party plug-in apps. He will demonstrate the processing on a couple of manual focus stacks brought to the presentation. Finally he will showcase some of his final images to demonstrate the exciting possibilities this technique can afford.
