A Contemporary Textile Art Show
by the SAQA Atlantic Region
Opening Wednesday, March 28, 7-9pm – Exhibit runs through April 29th, 2018
“Every life, every city, every human interaction undergoes change; combine this with nature’s changing seasons and landscapes, and a plethora of transitional episodes occur. With a combination of fabrics and threads, along with embellishments in lace, embroidery floss, wool, and found items, including dyeing, painting, colouring or stamping, the artists have hand-stitched or machine quilted their interpretation of the theme ‘Transitions’.
The Transitions exhibition shows some of the finest textile art in Atlantic Canada, including interesting and unusual use of fibre.
This is the third exhibition of the SAQA Atlantic Canada group of fibre artists. This group is part of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates), an international, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art quilt and the artists who create them. The Atlantic Canada chapter of SAQA include members from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland-Labrador.”
Sure to be a colourful, textural feast for the eyes! Transitions opens on Wednesday, March 28 at 7pm, this is a free, open to the public event. Please join us.
the Moon Jar by Shauna MacLeod
in The Craig Case Galleries
Opening Wednesday, March 28, 7-9pm- Exhibit runs through April 29th, 2018
“In her new series of moon jars, Ceramicist Shauna MacLeod explores a sense of home, connectedness, and permanence, which was all challenged last year by a series of personal losses condensed into a short period of time.
“For Homesick, I had my family and friends collect dirt, soil, and rocks from their travelled destinations and I processed it to be added to the glaze. I am creating a permanent representation of the connection with these five people, the lands we live, and a moment in time. ”
Homesick is on display in The Craig Case Galleries March 28 – April 29 and opens on Wednesday, March 28, at 7pm.
Please join us to revel in the light of the moon jar!
Our Opening receptions are a great time to meet the artist and discuss their work, motivations and techniques.
