Monotype (mono – single, type – kind) is an arena where printmaking, painting and drawing coalesce. This technique produces a unique, one of a kind image that can be developed by repeated runs through an etching press, or can be added to by hand. This two day workshop will introduce a number of methods of working inks on a surface plate (matrix) and explore the delightful variety of effects inherent in this printmaking process. We will be using high quality rag papers and an etching press to ‘pull’ the prints. The workshop will offer stimulating demonstrations and plenty of time for guided experimentation and creative investigation.

Dan O’Neill holds a diploma from OCAD U, and both a BFA and MFA from NSCAD U. He has been a regular part time faculty member teaching both printmaking and drawing since 1995. With numerous national and provincial arts grants to his credit, he received an established artist award from Creative NS Leadership Council in 2011. His work can be found in national and provincial art banks, in university art galleries in Halifax, and in The Confederation Art Centre Art Gallery collection. In May 2017 he mounted a solo exhibition by invitation in Levoca, Slovakia. He has taught both monotype and lithography for Access Art in past years.
