Rapport: The Red Black White Series
Terri Whetstone
November 2 – December 15, 2017

(Halifax) The Red Black White Series is Terri Whetstone‘s on-going collage project exploring the common language of aesthetics and design at play in the art works. With a restricted palette, the works focus on the dynamic interplay of colour and shape. Rapport: The Red Black White Series is on at the Corridor Gallery until December 15.

Terri Whetstone, Red Black White #8, 2016
Handcut paper and glue on paper, 15.24 x 10.16 cm

Of the work, Whetstone explains:
The Red Black White series of collages, made from cut and torn paper, are quasi-figurative. A tension is created between the suggested figures and their abstraction, disrupting the viewers need to understand the art work in terms of narrative. Something playful/human/humorous is retained.

Terri Whetstone was born in Edmonton, Alberta where she studied painting and art history. As an emerging artist in Edmonton and Toronto, Terri exhibited photo-installation and photomontage works, as well as paintings. After a hiatus from the studio while she raised her daughter and worked in social justice organizations, Terri returned to her studio practise in 2006. Since then she has had many solo and group exhibitions. Her work is found in many private collections in Canada and the United States. Terri is a current mentor in Visual Arts Nova Scotia’s Mentorship program and her studio is located on the south shore of Nova Scotia, where she has lived for 25 years.
