Portrait paintings by George Smith

in our Main Gallery

November 1 – 26
Opening Reception –Monday, November 1, 7-9pm

“My work is about the language of light and dark and its ability to draw the mind’s focus. A driver of a car will see the child cross the road and the crow descend on carrion but not remember the trees of houses that surround those images. My work is about these points of focused attention, in which the unnecessary and superfluous disappear.”

George Smith was born in Liverpool, England, and has been producing art all his life. He studied painting and sculpture at Liverpool University (BFA) under personal tutelage of David Nash and apprenticed with sculptor Sean Rice. George exhibited his work, in both painting and sculpture, in Liverpool, Wales, and as part of an art collective in Norwich, before immigrating to Canada in 2000.
