Ten-day cultural feast being held in Parrsboro

PARRSBORO, N.S. – October is a time to celebrate in Parrsboro

From Oct. 6-15, ‘10 Days in October’ will be marked with art exhibitions, readings, a gourmet dinner, hikes, a bus tour and a concert.

“10 Days in October offers a rich palette of experiences for many tastes,” said Robert More, executive director of Parrsboro Creative. “The whole town turns itself into one giant exhibition of artists who capture the spectacular beauty and the rich cultural traditions of Nova Scotia in their work.”

There will be solo exhibitions featuring painters Kim Aerts, Wayne Boucher and Susan Paterson, as well as award-winning photographer Len Wagg.

The Single Artists Collection at The Hall will include pieces by more than 30 artists, including Tom Forrestall, Steven May, Poppy Balsar, Bill Rogers, Arlene Collins, Roger Savage, William Forrestall and Joy Laking.
Art Lab artist-in-residence Janet Doble has put together a “3D” exhibition at the Parrsboro Creative residency building (formerly Sweet Brier) with a talented group of sculptors and fibre artists led by master stone carver Heather Lawson, sculptor Jan Hull, and rug-hooker Deanne Fitzpatrick.
Festivities begin Thursday, Oct. 5, with the Ship’s Company Theatre’s annual fall dinner (food by Wild Caraway).
The official opening ceremony is on Friday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at The Hall. It will be followed by an art walk and a reading of Agora by Kristen Slaney.
On Saturday, Oct 7, The Fundy Geological Museum will also be launching its new “Celebration of Fall” program, which features hikes to Partridge Island and Cape Sharp, and a bus tour. Saturday evening includes Oktoberfest and The Elastic Big Band at The Hall.
On Sunday there will be a concert at 8 p.m. with Theresa Malenfant.

Other events include a youth artist display at the Parrsboro Creative office, a Garden Club presentation on Oct. 11 called ‘Rhododendrons Come To Parrsboro’ at The Anglican Church Hall, and clay throwing and printing demonstrations at Art Lab.
