inFlux Festival

The Inverness County Centre for the Arts invites locals, summer residents and visitors to attend inFlux Festival. This new festival is a summer long celebration of the arts, cultures and communities of Inverness County.

Throughout the summer; artists, craftspeople and writers will lead workshops at Inverness County Centre for the Arts. Workshops will be open and accessible to artists and non-artists, adults and children. There will be something for everyone!

A number of music events will also be held right across the summer. From jazz to harp music, we will host a range of both 19+ evening events with a full bar, and afternoon family-friendly events in our beautiful gardens.

Tuesday evenings will see inFlux Ideas talks from 6-7pm at ICCA. These talks will be held by experts on a range of topics, from post impressionism to the ear!

Day inFlux will be a free, full-day event at Inverness County Centre for the Arts. Featuring music, dance, workshops, weaving, storytelling and ideas; it is not to be missed.

With Colin Grant, Chrissy Crowley, Gillian Head, Mary Beth Carty, Robert Deveaux, Adam Young and others; Day inFlux will have a great mix of Celtic Fiddle, Acadian song, Gaelic song, accordion and more!

Workshop Day

June 24 will kick off the inFlux Festival with two fantastic, participatory workshops.

inFlux Print your own Tshirt with Brooklyn Stewart

10:00-13:00

Learn the fundamentals of stencil making and screenprinting with NSCAD graduate Brooklyn Stewart. In this three hour workshop, from drawing and planning to hand printing you will be coached on transforming and image of your choice into a one of a kind t-shirt design.

Please bring an unribbed cotton article of clothing, tote bag, or pillowcase (or something similar!) to print on.

Workshop fee: $30 for ICCA members, $35 for non-members

inFlux Thrummed Knitting with Cecilia Jacobs of the Ginger Sheep

14:00-16:00

Explore the craft of thrumming, a tradition native to Newfoundland and Labrador, in this two hour knitting workshop with Cecilia Jacobs (a.k.a. The Ginger Sheep). You will explore the different fibres used for thrums, the different techniques used for thrumming and the assortment of projects you can make with thrumming. You will knit a headband so that everyone will get to practice making thrums. Beginner knitting experience required.

Please bring medium weight yarn (wool or acrylic) and size 5.5mm/US9 needles. Cecilia can provide needles and materials for an additional cost of $15, but this must be booked ahead.

Workshop fee: $30 ICCA members, $35 non-members

Tiny Houses: Make a Lobster Trap Tiny House

The art centre is planning a series of events around the theme of Tiny Houses. Our first event is a workshop where we invite participants, young and old, to use repurposed lobster traps, which we provide, to make tiny houses. These creations will be sited around Inverness as part of the Tiny Houses exhibition that will be taking place at the art centre from July 16 – Aug 27. Admission to the workshop is by donation. The art centre will supply some creative materials in addition to the lobster traps, and has a limited number of tools. Participants are encouraged to contribute materials such as small pieces of scrap wood, fabric, waterproof tape, and other light weight materials. Other suitable contributions would be small used toys, water-based, permanent paint, and markers.

Spaces are limited for the workshops, so it’s best to book ahead. For more information and to reserve your spot see the contact information below.

Hands Dancing Opening Reception and Benefit Auction

The Inverness County Centre for the Arts is proud to present the annual members’ exhibition “Hands Dancing”, a gallery exhibit showcasing the creative talents of the members of the Inverness County Centre for the Arts. This year’s exhibit will feature art in many different media demonstrating the unique vision of each of the artists. This exhibition is dedicated to the celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation. Many of the artists will be present at the opening reception, providing a great opportunity to meet them and discuss their work.

Following the opening reception, our annual “Hands Dancing Benefit Auction” will feature not only an exciting collection of auction items, but also live painting, music, an art raffle, and a V.I.P. afterparty for the bid winners and donors. This is an opportunity to come out for a fun evening in support of the Inverness County Centre for the Arts. Supporting the arts means supporting artists, musicians, and craftspeople in the community. Proceeds from the auction can help sustain ongoing exhibition opportunities, workshops, cultural exchanges, and other programming at the art centre. By giving to the art centre, you are making a positive contribution to the Inverness County community. All proceeds from our fundraising auction go towards sustaining and developing the 2017/2018 seasons at the Inverness County Centre for the Arts.
