Workshop Description
DVAS Workshop, Saturday, April 29th, 2017:
Abstraction – More or Less
Abstraction is a broad term used to describe a variety of painting styles. This workshop invites you to explore a few of those styles from subject-based abstraction to non-representational painting. Discussion will include various tools and methods, sources of inspiration, and ideas on how to start an abstract painting. Emphasis will be on experimentation in what is a very personal creative process.
Suggested Materials: Please bring your own painting medium (and a variety of colours) and painting tools (brushes, knives, etc). You may work in either oil, acrylic, or water-colour, although a water based paint will probably be the easiest. Each participant should also bring 3 to 5 practice supports (either small board, canvas, or heavy water colour paper), PLUS a canvas or board of medium size for the afternoon’s project. Participants are also asked to bring a sketch or photo which inspires them.
