Botanical Art Exhibition and Sale April 3 to April 28

Botanical Art Exhibition and Sale at N.S. Archives

The Botanical Artists of Nova Scotia Association (BANSA) is presenting a month-long botanical art exhibition and sale at the Nova Scotia Archives, 6016 University Ave., Halifax, from April 3 to April 28. The 12 artists will be on site during a reception on Saturday, April 8, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

BANSA was formed in 2014 as a province-wide society of painters, mainly watercolourists, whose artistic goal is to capture the beauty and scientific form of plants, as well as to promote public appreciation of the botanical art tradition, which combines science and art. Member artists draw inspiration from live plant specimens, seeking to understand and communicate the plant’s structure in an aesthetically pleasing manner.

Throughout the year, BANSA artists paint new botanical portraits, featuring native wild floral specimens and cultivated plants, which thrive in Atlantic Canada and beyond.

Visitors and prospective new members are welcome to enjoy this vibrant Spring display of paintings, and to ask questions about the style of botanical art, its origins and its recent surge in popularity throughout North America.

The following members of the Botanical Artists of Nova Scotia Association will be exhibiting their paintings:

Barbie Baker-Dykens, Jean Gibson Collins; Mary Helleiner, Sunetra Ekanayake, Mary Hill, Elisabeth Hulshoff, Corinne Ledson-Silver; Sondra MacLeod, Helga Mills, Gwen Paquin, Twila Robar-DeCoste and Jennifer Weidhaas.

Open hours for Nova Scotia Archives:

Mon to Fri: 8:30 am-4:30 pm; Wed Evening: 4:30-9:00 pm; Sat: 9:00 am-5:00 pm; closed Sundays
