VANS Winter Workshops: Webinars and Boot Camp

This winter VANS is offering two alternative types of professional development workshops for you:
Studio Sessions Webinars and WORK IT! WORK IT! Boot Camp for Artists.

So if you want to dedicate some time to your professional practice, but you don’t know where to start, we have got you covered. Both series’ are concise, jam packed with info and delivered by experts. What a great way to spend some time in February!


A 2 day intensive professional development boot camp for artists

In partnership with Cape Breton University Art Gallery, VANS presents this 2 day intensive workshop designed to help artists with various aspects of their professional practice. Instructed by artist, curator and filmmaker Eryn Foster, all sessions will be held at CBU Art Gallery, 1250 Grand Lake Rd, Sydney, NS. Sessions are $25 each or $60 for all three! You can sign up for one, two or three sessions, but f you bundle them you save as this is one of the best deals we have ever offered. Register today and get ready to Work It!

Part 1 – WORK IT! WORK IT!
Friday, February 24, 4 – 7pm

The first part of this workshop will focus on how and where to apply for artist opportunities such as exhibitions, festivals, residencies and curatorial projects. It will also briefly discuss strategies for networking and marketing/promoting one’s artwork.

Part 2 – WORK IT! WORK IT!
Saturday, February 25, 10am – 12pm

The second part of this workshop will focus on proposal and application writing for exhibitions, residencies and art festivals, as well as writing artist statements.

Part 3 – WORK IT! WORK IT!
Saturday, February 25, 1 – 3pm (Workshop) & 3 – 4pm (1:1 Meetings)

The final and third part of this workshop will look at where and how to get grants and funding to support art works and artistic practice. It will also include an optional one-on-one meeting with the workshop instructor.

A Webinar Series for Artists

We are happy bring back Studio Sessions, the webinar series for artists, which debuted last winter. Starting on Wednesday, February 15, at 6pm AT, this three-part workshop series will focus on professional development for artists online. Each one hour session will be taught by artist, entrepreneur, and popular workshop instructor Stacey Cornelius, and will allow artists from across the country to learn about branding, sales, and technology tools, from the comfort of their own home or studio.

VANS members can register for $18 for individual sessions or all three webinars for just $45! Non-members pay $28 each session or $75 for all three. Registration information can be found on the VANS Workshops page.

Technology Essentials: The Best Tools for Artists
Wednesday, February 15 at 6 – 7pm

Beyond the artist website, technology provides powerful tools that can help artists promote and sell their work. We’ll discuss some of the most powerful tools for websites, blogs and newsletters (even if you hate to write), as well as print on demand services—and the best ways to use them to grow your reputation and customer base

Brand Essentials: Make a Professional Impression (Even on a Tiny Budget)
Wednesday, February 22 at 6 – 7pm

“Brand” is a loaded word. To some people it seems cynical and corporate, to others, it’s nothing more than a logo. But your brand, or professional identity, is every experience your customer has with you. We’ll discuss how to polish your real-world and online presence while maintaining your personality and style. You’ll learn typography and layout tips for non-designers, and how to use your creativity to build “brand” recognition with customers.

Sales Essentials: Knock Down the Barriers to Selling
Wednesday, March 1 at 6 – 7pm

Are you unwittingly setting up barriers for your customers? We’ll explore roadblocks customers encounter both online and in the real world, and how to easily remove them. We’ll also walk through a sales experience from your customer’s perspective, and discuss how to make it easy for people to buy from you.
