Visual Voice Fine Art presents “VIEWS” an art exhibit featuring three solo shows with works by Lynn Johnson, Betty-Anne Gaetz, and Nora Gross. All three artists interpret everyday scenes and objects, such as landscapes and still life: bottles catching dancing light, flowers glowing in the afternoon sun, a napping cat, a floating dory. However, they each do so in a different medium: acrylic, oil and watercolour, respectively, and with a different style. Nevertheless, they all achieve a very endearing quality, which makes for a cohesive exhibit and leaves no doubt about the artists’ love of their medium, their subjects, and their audience.

Nora Gross, president of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC), explains: “Painting scenes and objects can be a challenge, to make the huge look small and close, and the vast seem touchable. To condense it to a size that fits into a frame for ‘viewing’ is a challenge that I love.”

Betty-Anne Gaetz, who paints in oils, describes her playful palette: “To me ‘views’ are about diversity. I love colour in all areas of my life and in these paintings is a variety of colour which I often tuck into unexpected places.”

Lynn Johnson, who paints in acrylics, summarizes it “For me this show is about noticing ordinary things and places around us, which when caught in a luminous light, are suddenly quite extraordinary. Light changes quickly and constantly, and for just a fleeting moment in time these things become quite exquisite and beautiful. My goal is to capture those moments on canvas, where I hope my ‘view’ will be enjoyed by many.”

The show opens Saturday, September 24th with a free reception that evening from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, with refreshments and the artists in attendance. The exhibit runs until November 5th.
The gallery’s regular hours are: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12:30 to 5:00 pm. Any other time by appointment 902-VIEWING (843-9464).
