CRAFT: New Works by Shelley Mitchell

OPENING THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th, 7-9pm

Show continues until October 4th

(HALIFAX)- Argyle Fine Art is pleased to present CRAFT: New works by Shelley Mitchell, opening reception this Friday, September 16th, 7-9pm. All are welcomed to attend. The show will consist of 14 oil paintings focusing on her best loved subject matter: reflections on the water. Shelley Mitchell is proud to be a Nova Scotian and celebrates this with her art; reminding us that the common scenes of boats on the water that some of us may take for granted, are actually pretty extraordinary .We live in a wonderful part of the world. These works are alive and at the same time serene. Shelley Mitchell captures it all.

Shelley Mitchell speaks about the latest works in her own words:

When we went to Maine hunting boats for this show my husband Charlie and I took an inflatable boat with a small engine. It opened up a whole new world in that we were not restricted to what we could see from wharves and shores but could travel up and down the endless coast with its estuaries and hidden coves. We were out on the water before dawn waiting for the sun to climb above the trees and out again in the late afternoon until dark. I was able to circle all around boats at anchor and moorings and see them from all sides and revisit them in different lights. We followed the working boatmen and were inspired by their skill. In “Taking her Home” the original scene is actually taking place in a crowded harbour and that guy is pushing a yacht while towing the tender but I chose to imagine the tow taking place along a secluded stretch of water. What can I say? I’m a romantic at heart!

The show will be viewable online, once the exhibit has officially opened on our website at www.argylefineart.com but sneak peeks earlier in the week will be published on our blog at www.argylefineart.blogspot.com
