Post AGM Report
On July 7th, the Centre for Art Tapes held its AGM for 2016. We would like to thank everyone who came out of the rain to attend the meeting. It was great to see so many friendly faces and share in the enjoyment of Dee Dee’s ice cream and space popsicles. For those members who were not able to attend, here is a brief recap of the meeting.
CFAT’s auditor, Hugh Davidson of Lyle Tilley Davidson presented the financial statements for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016. For the year, the Centre showed a small deficit. The Centre did show some increased revenues from gear rentals, while much of the rest of the revenues for the year remained stable from the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
CFAT’s Programming and Communications Coordinator, Tori Fleming, reported on the programming for the year. In total, the Centre presented or supported 13 pieces of programming over the year, as well as four workshops. Based on feedback from members, our newly redesigned website officially rolled out. Additionally, the Acoustic Network online catalogue was officially launched during the AGM.
Tom Elliott gave an overview of changes to CFAT’s equipment, highlighting some of the newly purchased gear including the start of our 5.1 audio presentation system and increases in the number of Macbook Pro laptops the Centre owns. Tom also dug through the CFAT archives and screened a promo video 1994 Media Arts Scholarship. Its up on the CFAT youtube page.
The board presented a report from CFAT’s E-Lab technician, Jesse Mitchell. Jesse will be returning in the Fall and this year, Jesse is aiming to create a more focused, over-arching project for the E-Lab, and hopes to introduce a new E-Lab Artist-in-Residency program.
We want to thank staff, volunteers and members for another great year at the Centre. We want to additionally thank our membership for the support they have shown the board during a difficult transitionary period in the Centre’s history. We put out a call for Board recruitments during the AGM, but had no nominations or anyone step forward. We’re hoping to fill out Board vacancies as soon as we can, so if there is anyone that wasn’t able to attend the AGM and would be interested in joining the board, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Most of you are aware that Renée and Daniel from the board have been working at the Centre since the departure of the Executive Director. What was intended to be only short period of a few weeks has turned into a few months. The board had originally approved Renée and Daniel to provide compensated interim coverage at the Centre from April until the end of June, and has since extended Daniel on a part-time basis until the end of September. Because of the unforeseen length of time requiring a board member to provide interim support, Daniel will be temporarily stepping down from the board until the end of his term and will be compensated at reduced rate from what the board had initially decided upon due to this extended length of time.
Over the summer, the board will be working towards adding a new part-time contract Grant and Outreach Coordinator position in the fall, and are currently accepting applications. We are also exploring options of adding a new JCP position before the end of year. Keep an eye on our regular newsletters and website for any further updates on future employment opportunities.
We also have a job posting up on the website for a Grant and Outreach Coordinator. Interested applicants have until August 2nd to apply.
