Artisans on Main Newcomers Show July 1-July 14
Eric R. Brydges was born in southern Ontario into a family of artists. He studied at the University of Toronto and teaching art was his profession in both Canada and Singapore for thirty-three years. His life has been filled with art and music and when he is not pursuing artistic projects he is playing bass or travelling the world. He started painting at a very young age and later developed a passion for rock sculpture using soapstone, alabaster and aerated concrete. Recently, he has renewed his love of painting inspired by the East Coast lifestyle in both his residence in Bedford NS and summer home in Savage Harbour, PEI. He uses a mixed media technique combining watercolours and acrylic paints. He has always been intrigued by colour, form and repetition in subject matter. Eric has always seen the beauty in the weathered and aged elements in the natural and man-made world.
Mary L. MacLean spends most of her time these days enjoying art and animals and often combines her love for both in her acrylic paintings. The landscapes, seascapes, flora and fauna of Prince Edward Island provide an endless supply of inspiration for Mary’s paintings. Her art captures memories of many hours spent walking on the beach, nature trails and driving through rural areas. Many of her paintings depict scenes in rural Kings County, P.E.I. Never taking her picturesque home province for granted, Mary feels that she has experience a heightened sense of appreciation of the Island since focusing on art. Through her paintings, Mary hopes to create a vehicle for others to visualize the natural beauty of Prince Edward Island as she sees it.
