Visual Voice Fine Art is proud to present two solo shows with paintings by Barbara McLean and sculpture by Carol Smeraldo.
When speaking about abstract art in Nova Scotia, Barbara McLean‘s name is imperative, though she began as an expressionistic landscape painter.
In Transition is about her work evolving more into abstraction with the passing of time. Barbara describes the process: “The choice was not a conscious one, the work evolved and lead me. I am still following.”
Her work in the show is charged with energy, colour and passion.
Carol Smeraldo, a potter by trade, also began creating sculpture and one-of-a-kind pieces later in her career. The sculptural work in Connections is about the ebb and flow of the creative cycle in all of us. Carol explains “It became clear to me that during the ‘down’ times a great deal is going on internally. Connections are being formed among seemingly disparate ideas, colours, motifs. Expectations begin to surface with the realization that this is actually a fertile time which cannot be rushed and the resurfacing of inspiration will follow.” Fittingly the ocean is ever present in the forms, colours and motifs of the sculptural work in the show.
Don’t miss the first glimpse of this strong exhibit and meeting the artists at the free opening reception THIS Saturday, June 25 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
The show continues until July 28th, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12:30 to 5:00 pm.
