Visual Voice Fine Art is proud to present new works by Lloyd Klassen & Leya Evelyn.
The common theme in two otherwise separate shows is perfection as a dichotomy,
abstraction and truth, the balance between natural and man made.
Leya Evelyn’s abstract oil and collage paintings incorporate screenprint and fabric,
some visible and others completely hidden from view by thick oil paint, a layering of
emotion and recollections, vibrant or subdued in colour, but always absorbing and
thought provoking.
Lloyd Klassen’s sculptures teetering between abstraction and representation, as
faces and limbs emerge from wood or clay exploring the interaction between nature
and man, bordering on the philosophical and always elegant in form.

Local veterinarian and owner/operator of the Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre,Helene Van Donnick enlightens us for 30-45 minutes, accompanied by beautiful images of the critters they have helped at the Centre. Featuring the wild life photography of Murdo Messer.

CHESTER ART FAIR

 SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 2012

 9:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.

Summer plans for the Chester Art Fair are now in full swing.  At this time, we are inviting artists and artisans  to participate in this year’s Fair which will take place

on Saturday, August 11, from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. 

at the Chester Art Centre, 60 Queen Street, Chester. 

 We are using a similar Art Fair layout as last year and have limited space for tents, maximum size tent is 10’x10‘.  Tent requests will be allocated on a ‘FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE’ basis.  We also have a limited number of  sun/shade umbrellas for rent.
 
 Set up begins at 7:30 A.M. – tables must be ready by 9:00 A.M.  Props and display items, insurance and security are the responsibility of the participant. There are no refunds and no early departures.

“South Shore Vistas” -The South Shore Vistas Silent Auction is an opportunity for you to display an art scene of your choice which you can create on before the fair.  We would then display it on Saturday in our Activities Tent.  The Reserve Bid is set by the artist and, if successfully sold, the artist receives 60% of the price with 40% being donated to the Chester Art Centre.  A tax receipt will be provided for that amount.  The item will be returned to you at the end of the day if unsold.

Payment confirms your registration.  To reserve your space, go to www.chesterartcentre.ca to print the registration form. We would appreciate receiving the Registration Form by June 15 along with your payment.

Swoon – Fine Art & Antiques Presents:

Open Air – A Group Show

Plein Air – French term meaning out of doors. Refers to the practice of painting an entire, finished picture out of doors; as opposed to simply making preparatory studies or sketches.

Swoon – Fine Art & Antiques is looking for artists to participate in Open Air – A Group Show of paintings completed en plein air.

This juried show will take place August 4, 2012 – September 1, 2012, with an opening reception on August 4 from 2-5pm.

Images for consideration must be emailed (info@swoonfineart.com) or delivered to the gallery by July 7, 2012. Submissions will be reviewed by a jury, and artists will be notified of the results by phone or email.

Work must have been painted within the last year and must not have been previously shown. Artists can submit up to five images and should include the size, price and medium of each piece. (Note – Presentation, framing and the archival nature of the work will be taken into consideration.)

All accepted work must be delivered to Swoon on or before July 28, 2012.

Workshop with Lio Lo

Watercolour workshop on painting florals

Beginners and intermediate levels welcome.

Lio Lo, Jordan Falls artist, will present a one day Watercolour workshop on painting florals. Lio is well known for her luminous floral paintings. Each painting has its own special character that is inspired by the flower being illustrated.

A general introduction to painting florals that glow. Learn different techniques on using loose or photorealism approaches to paint luminous flowers. Lots of demonstrations on mixing soft colours for the flower pedals, glazes over the ever-changing shadows, tricks on suggesting the glowing lights and shadows, and the treatments of the backgrounds.

Materials:  Just bring whatever you have and whatever you have been using. I will supply what is needed.

Not only do we have a high calibre artist giving this workshop but the setting is also special. Lunenburg with its unique and appealing architecture is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Lunenburg artist Colleen Galloway, describes this watercolour workshop which she took from Sally in Ontario, in glowing terms: “Sally Milne’s watercolours of glass contain a fluidity, transparency and luminosity that few watercolourists can match.  Her paintings are rich with colour, light and shadows.  I personally found her workshop provided a comfort zone for watercolourists to push beyond their normal boundaries.  She was generous with both her style and talents.”
